Wang Wei: Olympic sponsorship embodies patriotism
(Beijing, December 12) A successful Olympiad is a reflection of patriotism, said Wang Wei, executive vice-president and secretary-general of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (
BOCOG).
Experience of previous Olympic Games shows that the hosting of the Games is not only the matter of an organizing committee, but a matter of the whole nation, and that it reflects deep patriotism, he made the remarks at the launch of the Beijing 2008 Supplier Sponsorship Program, which is the third phase of the program.
The Beijing 2008 Olympic Games has received support from many large-scale Chinese enterprises which is a fact showing support from the people of the nation, said Wang, adding that aside from the value of brands, the sponsorship program embodies patriotism.
What the Games needs is not only enthusiasm, but also a scientific attitude, Wang said. He advised enterprises who are interested in the sponsorship program should scientifically prove whether their brands and products are able to meet the Olympic standards and whether they have sufficient funds to support their initiatives.
This is the only way that can bring about a win-win cooperation and that can help fulfil the objective of a high-level Olympic Games with distinguishing features, Wang said.
The Beijing 2008 Sponsorship Program consists of three tiers: partners, sponsors and suppliers. Up till now, 10 partners have been designated. They are Bank of China, CNC, SINOPAC, CNPC, China Mobile, Volkswagen, adidas, Johnson & Johnson, Air China and PICC P&C. The seven sponsors designated to date are UPS, Haier, SOHU, Yili, Tsingtao Beer, Yanjing Beer and BHB Billiton.
