Professor Jin Yuanpu Interviewed by Journalists from CBC



 


On March 14th, Prof. Jin Yuanpu, executive director of HOSC was interviewed by two journalists from CBC in the meeting room of this center.


 


During the interview, Prof. Jin gave a detailed explication of the three concepts for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, especially the concept of “Humanistic Olympics.” And he expressed his views on the impact of the Beijing Olympics on the development of its suburban areas, on the adjustment and transformation of various aspects of the present Beijing, on Olympics education and on the improvement of the overall quality of Beijing citizens. He also exchanged ideas with the Canadian journalists on the subject of “Harmony”.


 

After the interview, the journalists said they were fully convinced that Beijing would hold the Olympics successfully and impressed the world people with its new image.


The Symposium on 2008 Olympic Slogans Held in Renmin University of China



 


On the morning of March, 15th, the symposium on 2008 Olympic slogans was held in Renmin University of China. The symposium was presided over by Prof. Feng Huiling, director of HOSC and deputy president of RUC, and attended by Mr. Ren Xiaolong, head of slogan team of Culture and Activity Dpt. of the Chinese Olympic Committee, Prof. Jin Yuanpu, executive director of HOSC and scholars and experts of RUC such as Yu Guoming, Tu Guangjin, Sha Lianxiang, Yuan Jixi, Ma Xiangwu, Zhang Yongxian, Dong Zhiyong, Hong Dayong, Hu Baijing and Wang Yue, Sun Lu  from the university’s Science and Technology Research Dpt..


 


Mr. Ren introduced the history and procedures of slogan collection in the previous Olympics and the proceeding slogan collecting work for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He said that all the existing 800 slogans selected from 20000 slogans could not communicate satisfactorily Beijing’s particularity and local cultural features and the harmonious spirit derived from the three concepts “Green, Scientific and technological, Humanistic Olympics”. Since RUC has strong humanities and HOSC has always helped and supported the slogan collecting work, Beijing Olympic committee held this symposium in order to take valuable suggestions from the scholars.


 


During the symposium, experts agreed on several points regarding the slogans: Olympics represent aspirations of the world people; Olympic slogans should have strong sensational impact, being easily translated, accepted and spread around the world. As to the content, the Chinese version should fit Chinese mode of thinking, the English version appealing to the eye; the slogans should be the unity of form and content, image and meaning; read rhythmically and sound peasant to the ear, easily understood and accepted. Expert also offered their suggestions on the selection of specific images in the slogans.
